Jelly wax is a unique, transparent candle wax made from mineral oil and polymer resin. Unlike soy or paraffin wax, it has a gel-like texture that requires careful melting. If overheated, jelly wax can lose clarity or form bubbles, so the right method is essential.
Step 1: Prepare Materials
- Jelly wax (store-bought or pre-cut chunks)
- Double boiler or heat-safe container with a pot of water
- Thermometer (recommended)
- Stirring stick or spoon
Step 2: Cut Jelly Wax into Small Pieces
Cut the jelly wax into small chunks before melting. This helps it melt evenly and prevents scorching.
Step 3: Use a Double Boiler
Place the jelly wax in a heat-safe bowl or pitcher, then set it over simmering water (double boiler method). Direct heat from a stovetop or microwave is not recommended, as it can overheat and damage the wax.
Step 4: Monitor the Temperature
Heat the jelly wax slowly until it reaches 90–95°C (194–203°F). Stir gently to avoid introducing air bubbles.
Step 5: Ready to Use
Once fully melted and clear, the jelly wax is ready for coloring, fragrance, or pouring into containers.
⚠️ Tips:
- Do not exceed 100°C (212°F). Overheating can cause discoloration and loss of clarity.
- Always stir slowly to avoid cloudiness.
