Jelly wax is a transparent, gel-like candle wax made from mineral oil and polymer resin. It creates beautiful candles with a unique bouncy texture and is perfect for container candles. With the right ingredients and steps, you can easily make jelly wax at home.
Step 1: Prepare the Wick
Secure a cotton or wooden wick in a heat-resistant glass jar using a wick holder or glue dot. Make sure it stays upright in the center.
Step 2: Heat the Mineral Oil
Place mineral oil in a double boiler and slowly heat it to 90–95°C (194–203°F). Avoid overheating, as it may break down the oil.
Step 3: Add Polymer Resin
Gradually sprinkle polymer resin into the hot oil while stirring continuously until dissolved. The mixture will thicken into a gel-like texture, forming your jelly wax base.
Step 4: Add Color and Fragrance
Mix in liquid candle dye for color and up to 5–8% candle-safe fragrance oil. Avoid powdered dyes and essential oils, as they may cloud the wax or burn poorly.
Step 5: Pour and Cool
Pour the hot jelly wax into your prepared jar. Let it cool and set at room temperature.
Step 6: Trim and Decorate
Once cooled, trim the wick to ¼ inch (6 mm). You can embed small decorations like seashells, stones, or glitter for a unique effect.
✅ Result: A crystal-clear, bouncy candle with slow, beautiful burning.
