Separating sand and wax can be a little tricky because wax changes state when heated, while sand stays solid. Here are some effective methods you can use to separate them:
1. Heating Method
- Place the sand and wax mixture in a heat-resistant container.
- Gently heat it until the wax melts.
- The sand will remain solid and settle at the bottom, while the melted wax floats on top.
- Carefully pour off the liquid wax and let it cool to solidify again.
2. Filtration Method
- Heat the mixture to melt the wax.
- Pour it through a filter (such as fine mesh or filter paper).
- The sand stays in the filter, while the melted wax passes through and can be collected.
3. Solvent Method (for advanced use)
- Use a solvent such as alcohol that dissolves wax but does not affect sand.
- After dissolving, filter out the sand.
- Evaporate the solvent to recover the wax.
These methods are commonly used in candle making or DIY projects when sand and wax accidentally mix.
