Wax pearls, also known as sand wax or pearl wax, are a fun and versatile option for candle-making. They come in small granules that are easy to measure and melt, making them ideal for both beginners and experienced candle makers.
The melting time for wax pearls depends on a few factors:
- Heat Source – Using a double boiler is the safest and most effective way. Over medium heat, wax pearls generally take 10–15 minutes to fully melt.
- Quantity of Wax – A larger batch will take longer, while a smaller amount may melt in as little as 5–7 minutes.
- Wax Type – Pearl wax can be made from paraffin, soy, or blends, and each type has a slightly different melting point. Paraffin melts faster (around 120–140°F / 49–60°C), while soy wax takes a bit longer (around 120–180°F / 49–82°C).
- Equipment – Melting in a microwave-safe container can also work, but it requires stopping every 30 seconds to stir, usually taking 3–5 minutes for smaller amounts.
👉 Tip: Always melt wax slowly and avoid overheating to prevent burning or discoloration.
