How Do You Make Candles from Beeswax?

Beeswax candles are a natural, eco-friendly alternative to traditional candles. They burn longer, produce less smoke, and give off a subtle honey-like fragrance. Making beeswax candles at home is a rewarding DIY project that requires only a few simple steps.

Step 1: Gather Materials

You will need:

  • Beeswax (blocks, pellets, or sheets)
  • Candle wicks (cotton or hemp are ideal)
  • A heat-safe container or jar
  • A double boiler (or a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water)

Step 2: Melt the Beeswax

Cut or break beeswax into small pieces for easier melting. Place it in a double boiler and gently heat until fully liquified. Avoid direct heat, as beeswax can scorch easily.

Step 3: Prepare the Wick

Attach the wick to the bottom of your container with a small dab of melted wax or a wick sticker. Keep it centered by wrapping the top of the wick around a stick or skewer placed across the container.

Step 4: Pour the Wax

Carefully pour the melted beeswax into your container, leaving a small gap at the top. Straighten the wick if necessary and allow the candle to cool and harden completely.

Step 5: Trim and Enjoy

Once the wax is firm, trim the wick to about ¼ inch (0.6 cm). Light your candle and enjoy the warm glow and natural aroma of beeswax.

Beeswax candles are not only beautiful but also healthier for indoor air quality, making them perfect for cozy, sustainable living.
