1. Gather Materials
- Plain white or natural sand (washed and dried)
- Paraffin wax, soy wax, or palm wax (depending on your preference)
- Double boiler or heat-safe container + pot
- Candle dye (optional, for colored sand)
- Baking sheet lined with parchment paper
2. Melt the Wax
- Use a double boiler method to melt your wax slowly and evenly.
- Keep the temperature around 70–80°C (160–175°F) so it’s fully melted but not smoking.
3. Coat the Sand
- Pour the clean, dry sand into a large mixing bowl.
- Slowly drizzle the melted wax over the sand while stirring.
- Continue stirring until each grain of sand is lightly coated.
- If you want colored sand, add candle dye to the melted wax before pouring.
4. Spread and Cool
- Spread the waxed sand thinly over the parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Allow it to cool and harden for 30–60 minutes.
5. Store and Use
- Once hardened, break up any clumps with your fingers.
- Store in a dry, airtight container.
- Waxed sand can be used for sand candles, layering jars, or decorative projects.

- Always use completely dry sand—any moisture will cause clumping.
- Add fragrance oil to the melted wax if you want scented wax sand.
