1. Trapped Air During Pouring
When gel wax is poured too quickly or stirred too vigorously, air becomes trapped in the wax. As the wax cools, these air pockets rise to the surface or remain suspended, forming tiny bubbles.
2. Temperature Differences
Pouring gel wax that is too hot into a cooler container can cause rapid contraction, which traps air within the wax. Likewise, containers that are too cold can make the outer layer solidify faster than the interior, pushing bubbles toward the surface.
3. Impurities or Moisture
Even small amounts of dust, water, or residue in the container or wax can create bubbles. Gel wax is highly sensitive to impurities, which form nucleation points for air bubbles.
4. Fragrance Oils and Additives
Some fragrance oils and colorants contain volatile compounds that release gases when heated. Adding them at too high a temperature or in excessive amounts can increase bubble formation.
5. Prevention Tips
- Pour slowly and along the container wall to reduce air entrapment.
- Preheat the container slightly to reduce temperature shock.
- Add fragrance oils at recommended temperatures (usually below 90–95°C / 195–203°F).
- Stir gently and avoid vigorous mixing.
- Use clean, dry containers to prevent moisture or dust from causing bubbles.
